Day 364

Today we pulled up to an island, planted some stakes, and played horseshoes in between dips in the river. It finally feels like summer!

Day 363

I hit the road today for Arizona. I got my car washed and it is easily the cleanest it has been in the last year, it needed some love after sitting in IV for so long. We hit this stretch of freeway in the middle of nowhere as the sun was going down, the light was so nice I had to pull over and take a picture.

Day 361

361/365

I went to Hollywood today and I came across this little gem. Three years ago I wouldn't have had any idea who this was (I don't think most people would). Today I had to fight the urge to tell all of my friends about him, and I realized how nerdy I've become.

Day 358

Today I busted out some skills I learned in high school and I helped my brother pimp his ride.

Day 357

Today I left Isla Vista for good. I love shoes, so as a final farewell it seemed fitting to leave a pair. I got these right before coming to IV, and after 3 years they are, not unlike IV itself, trashed, grimy, and full of character. I couldn't think of a better final resting place than over the heads of a new generation of drunken revelers.

I've been living in a bubble for the last three years and it's been amazing. It was most definitely an experience and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I feel like I'll work for the rest of my life trying to move back to Santa Barbara.

Day 355

I had an amazing day. I hung out with my friends, said goodbye to some people, and generally just reminisced. And for the first time in a while, I just put my camera away and enjoyed things. I did start packing though, which really started to bum me out. I still feel like there's a lot to explore, I'm not ready to leave for good!

Day 354

354/365 by Aaron LaRue

I finished all of my finals today, now I only have one thing left to do before I leave Santa Barbara.

Day 353

This is Joe, he is the superhero of UCSB's film department.

Day 352

I finished another final today in my acting and directing class. Before I hit the books again for my last final, we all went out to lunch as a class and it was a blast. Here, Jackie educated the hell out of Ramin. It was a fantastic way to end what was easily one of my favorite classes!

Day 351

I finished my first final today and took the long way home. It's easy to forget how beautiful this place really is, but all it takes is a walk around the lagoon on a nice day to remind you.

Day 350

350/365 by Aaron LaRue

I sat in one spot for most of today learning about New Wave Cinema, and the ONLY exciting thing I did was cook some macaroni for dinner. Everyone was so hungry that I could only snap a cell phone pic before it was devoured. It's probably because my mom's recipe is so delicious....

Day 348

It's the weekend before finals week, which means a lot of sitting in one place and reading. I made some more New Orleans style iced coffee and it is now the staple of my diet for the next few days. It's incredibly strong and very delicious, but photo worthy? I'm already preparing for the finals week induced photo slump.

Day 347

347/365 by Aaron LaRue

Today was the last day of classes for the year. It was also my last day at UCSB, and the last day at work as a T.A. AND it was Jackie's last day teaching at UCSB, so she got to be the guest for 54. I feel like I'm going to have a lot of lasts over the next few days, I'm still not really sure how I feel about it.

Day 346

Chad took an ecology class this quarter, and on the first day they handed him a butterfly net. He had to catch 80 different types of bugs and it took him forever, but I have to say his collection looked pretty impressive. Click here to see it in all of its hi-resolution glory!

This is the lens I used to shoot Augie with yesterday. At 8mm, it was a little too wide for my liking, but my god it is one of the most beautiful lenses I have ever seen.

Today I shot my first wedding, and it was Darling.

Day 340

Today was the 20th Annual Reel Loud Film Festival and we screened California! It was also the day that I did the scariest thing I have ever done. And someone got the whole thing on tape!

Day 339

339/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Today we had sound check for Reel Loud. We've only practiced once, but my band of all-stars is ready. Now I just need to prepare myself...

Day 338

This is Kira...

Day 337

The Pen 15 Club is a prestigious organization devoted to education and awareness. This whiteboard, housed in their headquarters, is the club's epicenter and changes according to what the house smells like, what day it is, and what word happens to be puzzling members. Applications are welcome, but rarely considered.

Day 336

336/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off this week. Reel Loud is on Friday, and I'm shooting my first wedding here, at the Canary Hotel, on Saturday. We did a little location scouting today, I've got a lot to get done in the next few days!

Day 335

335/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Today I went on a thrift store adventure with Jaimie and I was met with my worst nightmare.

Day 334

I've been neglecting my guitar for a while, today I gave it some love.

Today cruised around in the Landshark and it was awesome.

Day 331

331/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

People love asking me photo questions. A lot of the time it revolves around the gear. Well, after 331 days, a lot of experimentation, and a few different bags, I've got a pretty good set-up and I'm ready to share.

Day 330

330/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

It seems like IV has been under constant construction this year, and the latest thing to get tinkered with is the power lines. We had no power all day a few days ago, which was a "planned outage". Then today, we had the power go off unexpectedly, and it stayed out all night. It has been a huge pain in the ass, I don't know how the Amish do it.

Day 329

329/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

I took a thousand pictures yesterday, the last thing I wanted to do today was pick up my camera.

Day 328

328/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Today I shot UCSB's annual music festival, Extravaganza. This is Rusko, and he easily stole the show.

Day 327

I got a "DIY" ring flash today.

Ze weather human is a Nexus tradition. Zhe is anonymous and gender neutral. Ze identity of the human is kept a closely guarded secret. And the best part is, ze 'human almost never talks about the weather.

Day 325

325/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

I finished editing today. It felt SO good to put my signature on it.

Day 324

324/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

I really like shoes. I finally had to retire my shoes from Day 51 and after almost a year, I figured it was time to get some new kicks.

Day 323

323/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Day two of chopping film and my editing bay got an upgrade.

Day 322

322/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Remember that road trip I went on? Well I started editing all the footage today. It's Monday, and the deadline for the festival I'm submitting to is Friday, so I have a lot of work ahead of me. I took over my kitchen and set up a VERY janky editing bay, and I figured I'd share my ridiculous process.

Day 321

321/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Happy Mother's Day?

Day 320

320/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Today was awesome and relaxing, but it didn't really translate into a picture very well. I took this when I was going to get some food and it ended up being the only picture I took today. There's something simple about it that I really like.

Day 319

319/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Jordan came down to visit. We were walking around IV trying to figure out what to eat and a bum was very impressed with Jordan's t-shirt. So impressed that, when we walked passed him again on our way home, he handed Jordan this. He hand crafted a flower made out of a piece of palm leaf.

Day 318

318/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Today was Cinco de Mayo, and after today, I firmly believe that sombreros are my photographic kryptonite.

Day 317

317/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

I usually have a post about a haircut whenever I get one, and I started to ask myself why I do that.

Day 316

316/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Midterms always take a lot out of me and this quarter was no different. Between writing papers and shooting that music video, I had a lot of late nights that turned into early mornings and I haven't been sleeping much. I wrote a paper today on a film called The Tracey Fragments, which inspired today's picture. With a few exceptions, the entire film is told in split screens that are constantly shifting. It's a really interesting film, I would highly recommend checking it out if you haven't already.
