This is my neighbor Felice.
I have really patient friends/neighbors/roommates, I'm pretty lucky. I'll get a new toy and they'll sit patiently as I play with it. Today was one of those days. I wanted to do a shot with just a ring light, and Felice just happened to be in my living room with her aviators. I had her light a cigarette, because of my ongoing love affair with well lit smoke, and I just started shooting. I had her pull her hood up, and as she did I got the shot above. It's kind of a weird pose, especially since you lose the black hood in the shadows, but for some reason I really liked this picture. Plus the reflection of her hand in her glasses is awesome.
I really liked what I was getting with this set-up. This look isn't the most original thing out there, but it's something that's good to have in your tool bag. Next time I'm going to mess around with adding more sources, I think a little bit of a kick light could go a long way here. I'm just happy to be taking portraits. I'm realizing that there's not much time left on this project, and there are a lot of people that I want to try and shoot. The clock is ticking!
