Day 51

51/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

This is the first and only pair of shoes that I  have ever loved, they have character. Right now they only come out on special occasions, and pretty soon I'm going to have to retire them, which bums me out. A haiku to my shoes and a set-up shot after the jump...

My precious tired
shoes have stared up at me for
what seems like ages.

Day 51 set up

Haikus are silly, aren't they? This picture was a quick set up, but pretty effective, and I'm actually really happy with it. After taking my shoes off (today was one of those special days), I put them on my black couch which would serve as the perfect backdrop. I clamped a flash to the lamp post sitting next to the couch and aimed it at my shoes. It's a little bit behind the shoes, giving them a hard kick rather than a frontal key, so the front side was way too dark. Normally, because my brain isn't fully functioning, I would have set up another flash on a stand, maybe even an umbrella, played with them for 10 minutes trying to get the levels and distance right, and then gotten the picture I wanted. Today, my brain was firing on all cylinders I remembered I had a bounce card, so I just bounced the light from the flash right back onto the shoes. A simple one light set up, the whole thing took 10 minutes. I really need to start using that bounce more, it's a great way to get more bang for your buck as far as light goes.
