A self-portrait to start things off right. Today is my first day back at school. It's also the first day of fisheye pictures, which I'm excited about.
I have big plans for this quarter. I only have a little bit of time here at UCSB and I plan on making it count. So without further ado, during Winter Quarter of 2011, I want to:
1. Do well in my classes - Although I forget this at times, I'm actually in Santa Barbara to go to school (it's the weirdest thing!) so I need to make that a priority. I'm usually pretty good about this, but when the cold hits and the rain comes and the sunlight only lasts for a few hours, I tend to skip class. So I need to quit doing that. And I need to quit falling asleep in class too, because that kind of defeats the purpose of being there.
2. Make some movies - It's a goal every quarter and I'm usually pretty good about this too. It's the first day of the quarter and I already have 2 projects lined up and if all goes well I'll be a PA on an indie shoot, so I'm looking forward to that! I also want to have the pre-production done on my reel loud by the end of the quarter.
3. Keep up with my 365 - It's so easy to stop taking good pictures when I get stressed and busy. I'm working on trying to come up with creative ways to get around that. Making this week all fisheye pictures was my first step, and so far I'm stoked on it.
4. Keep up with screenwriting - I'm planning a big screenwriter's workshop weekend on campus, which is awesome, so I want to pull that off successfully. I also want to finish my feature by the end of the year, which means a lot of tinkering/progress this quarter. My goal is to have 90 pages written by the end of the quarter.
5. Work out twice a week - Exercise is usually the first thing to get cut from my schedule, and it's a bad habit I need to break. When things get tough, I just need to keep it moving twice a week and hopefully that'll keep me sane.
6. Do the loop - I turn 21 this quarter (right near the end) and I want to do the loop. Basically you spend a day and go to the restaurants in IV and get a drink at each one. It's a challenge that I intend to conquer.
7. Watch move movies - I spend so much time watching movies for school that it's rare when I see a film for fun, and I don't like that. I want to watch 1 movie a week outside of class just because I want to see it. This week I'm watching 2001: A Space Odyssey (which I've had from netflix since last april!).
So there it is, 7 concrete things that I want to achieve. I think they're all pretty attainable too, which is nice. We'll see how well I did in 10 weeks!
Day 197

Ghandi? Sir Ben Kingsley? Current President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai? What?
I actually have no idea who this is supposed to be. It's painted on the back of a small storage unit in one of the parks in IV. I asked one of the park maintenance people who painted it and he told me that a UCSB student did a couple of years ago. He had just graduated and painted this the day before he left to travel around the world. I wonder where that guy is now, or if that story is even true.
Day 198

I've been fiddling with my schedule trying to get the classes I want. So far I've been successful, but I've screwed myself as far as my schedule goes. On Wednesdays I have 9 hours of class, spanning from 10 A.M. to 9 P.M. 7 of those hours are spent in screenings, watching movies. 5 of those 7 are spent in the same room and with only a 10 minute break. I spent way too much time in these chairs today, people were not meant to sit for that long.

After my hellacious Wednesdays, I have pretty relaxing Thursdays. Tony had some free time too, so we played a round of frisbee golf in the middle of the afternoon. It's rained the last couple days, so there were actually some water hazards that made things interesting. Normally I'm a scratch frisbee-golfer, but I was having an off day and I ended up in the drink a couple of times!

Day 200! I can't believe I'm well over halfway... Here's an alien duck in celebration!
Day 201

I got sick yesterday. It was going around my house and it finally took me down. It actually hit me while I was onstage for 54 (the class I TA for) and it was absolutely miserable. I spent my first Friday of the quarter in bed for the most part. The next day I was feeling even worse, and Kira offered to make me pancakes. They were delicious and very much appreciated, thanks Kira!

I'm having a nice, lazy Sunday today, which is good because I still feel like hell. I was diggin the sky so I just snapped a picture. When I got my prints back I liked this one, but I didn't think it wasn't anything incredible. Then Tony saw it and told me it looks like earth from space and I kind of fell in love with it.
Day 203

I was only going to do fisheye's for a week, but I'm having too much fun with it.
Someone went big last night and busted their TV up in the middle of the street. I grabbed my t2i to go shoot it, and I still had some frames left on my roll of film, so I brought my fisheye too. The fisheye picture is pretty rad, especially since the film is all burned out. The digital picture is still cool...

but it doesn't compare to the fisheye! I'm having a hard time going back to my HDSLR, I'll probably squeeze another day or two out of my film before I get it developed.

We got some good news today... they (whoever they are) had a court hearing and we get to keep Faythe! It's a good thing too because I think we're all pretty attached at this point. She's so friggin cute it's hard not to be!
This picture cracks me up, she went through my dad's wallet and grabbed some cash. You can see her hanging on to it in her right hand, she's already learning how to work the system.
It's really crazy how quickly she's growing. She looks completely different from Day 1, but her personality is starting to come out too which is awesome. And she's starting to talk, it's just going to get more fun from here on out.
