Day 358

Today I busted out some skills I learned in high school and I helped my brother pimp his ride.

Kyle and I realized early on that if we installed our car stereos/speakers/subs ourselves, we could buy high quality stuff and save a ton of money on the install. We didn't really know what we were doing when we started, but my first car was a total beater, so when we tore the thing apart the risk was relatively low. Eventually we figured it out, and after doing our own cars, we'd do our friends cars. Before I left to UCSB we had ended up putting in systems with satellite radio, navigation, Bluetooth microphones and huge subs and amps.

Cut to  a couple years later and Blayke is on the verge of getting his license. My parents got him a sweet touchscreen, bluetooth ready DVD head unit, so Kyle, Garrett and I sipped on some beers and taught Blayke how to install it. His car refused to cooperate, everything that could possibly go wrong did. We had to use a Dremel to shave down the inside of the dash so the unit would slide in, so the picture above is Blayke about to attack his car with a grinder. Despite the snags, after a few hours we got it all set up and it looks really clean. Blayke is really pumped too, and I think he learned enough to do the next stereo on his own which is cool.

As silly as it is, it was the best way I could have possibly spent today. It was so much fun hanging out with my brothers and Kyle and working on a car, it felt like the good ol' days!
