Day 321

321/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Happy Mother's Day?

I hopped in my car today to kick it with my mom for a few hours. About 15 miles from my house, traffic started to slow down, which was odd because that particular highway never has traffic. Then I came to a stop. And I sat there for a half hour.

It was easy to see that something had happened, and later when I drove by I saw the two cars that looked like they hit each other head on. It was a pretty gruesome sight. There were tons of cop cars, ambulances, fire engines and tow trucks speeding by me towards the scene, and I saw at least three ambulances take off transporting victims of the accident in the other direction. I hope no one was seriously hurt, but judging by the cars it didn't look so good.

While I was immobile, I pulled my camera out and started taking picture. I was a tiny bit too slow on this frame, I wish I could have gotten the whole cop car in the shot. In my defense, he was going by at 65 at LEAST, and the drive mode on the t2i isn't very quick. He kicked up a ton of rocks as he past, as soon as I had taken the picture I had to duck back into my car to avoid getting nailed by the tiny projectiles. I like how this picture turned out though. Just a tad bit of motion blur on the car to show that he's bookin' it, and the dust trail behind him is pretty awesome. I've been watching a lot of Top Gear lately, and after seeing their beautifully shot segments, I added a gradient filter to the top of the image in photoshop, which is how they get those epic looking skies.

Accident and delay aside, it was nice to be home for a few hours and hang with the family. Happy Mother's Day Mamma!
