Last night we had a "welcome back" concert, and the headliner was Major Lazer.
The music was thumping last night, you could hear it from a mile away and if you were close to the stage, you could feel the ground shaking. There was a huge turnout, too, so people were pumped and the vibe was good. This band is weird, but they're super fun. It's two DJ's, Diplo and Switch, who make music. They collaborate with singers and make dubstep/electro/reggae/dance hall stuff. Their hype man, Skerrit Bwoy, is also a huge part of their show, and isn't the typical annoying hype man.
The crazy thing about Major Lazer is the dancing. They do something called "daggering", which is pretty much a kind of exaggerated humping combined with some acrobatics and ladders. The best example is in the music video for Pon De Floor, but it's not for the faint of heart (be weary, grandma!). The picture for today is Skerrit Bwoy daggering with another dancer, he was spinning her around on stage and the crowd loved it. It was really fun, it's hard not to enjoy their show. The opener was a mashup DJ named Milkman, who actually went to UCSB, and he was good too. Good crowd, good music, and some good pictures.
