Day 84

84/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

After a long weekend in SF, and a long night in SB, I woke up this morning, packed my bags, and headed home.

It always feels so good to pull up to my house, it's a feeling I can't explain. Walking through that door is one of the most comforting feelings I think I will ever get to experience. This time was particularly exciting because my little sister, who apparently can walk now, heard the door, wandered to the front door, and just stood there staring at me. It was surreal how much older she looks in the two months I've been gone. It's good to be home.

I planned on taking a nice, wide sunset picture of my house, but got caught up watching the MNF double header with my dad (thank GOD football is back!) and I spaced big time. When I looked outside and it was almost completely dark, things clicked, and I ran outside with my fastest lens, a 50mm f/1.8, to try and salvage something. My wide shots were ugly, but this beautiful gold light kept peeping out from the doorway, so I got a closer look. Then sun was just setting, so I set my white balance to tungsten. This gave me a rich blue sky, which I love, and that nice gold light pouring out from the doorway. It took me a few tries to get a sharp picture, this is at f/1.8, ISO800 and I had to shoot a 1/15 shutter speed (it might have been 1/20). This is where the steadiness of your hands can make or break you, thankfully I passed the test this time.
