Today was my first day as a TA and these are the kids in my class. Sure, they all may look kind of bored or mildly annoyed by my existence, but they're mine and I'm excited. Props to the girl in the front row who threw me a funny face, you're getting an A.
Today was the convocation for the 2010 freshman class. The man at the podium is Chancellor Yang, head of our university, a local celebrity and all around awesome dude.
Today was busy, some of the boys came down and we had a NIGHT! I did squeeze this off, though, I thought it was pretty ingenious. Jordan made Victoria a drink but we didn't have ice, so he put an otter pop in there. Major bonus point on the presentation, and it was super effective.
We spent 7 hours in the car today driving back from SF. We got stuck in traffic going through the city and it was terrible. Thankfully, Yardley and Claire made the whole thing bearable. Then I got home and had a long night, it was a not-so-good ending to an otherwise fantastic weekend.
This is my friend Claire. She was nice enough to take me in for the weekend and show me around San Francisco. Now for my first day in the city and a crap load of photos....
I had a day jam-packed with screenwriting, so I didn't get to go outside much. I went with Jordan to get some dinner, and we ran into the one-and-only pirate bum on our way home. Who is the pirate bum, you say?
So it was 11:30 tonight and I hadn't taken my picture yet. I had taken some pictures throughout the day, but I wasn't in love with any of them. I was in the process of taking lame pictures of lame things in my room when JT called me out hard. "Haven't you already done a picture like that?" he tells me...
Since I take my camera everywhere lately, I was in desperate need of a small camera bag. Instead of paying a ridiculous amount of money that I don't have, I went DIY and made my own (with the help of my beautiful and talented girlfriend, of course).
Rita has a ton of funky little figurines/statues throughout her room, and this one always catches my eye. Nice, simple, quick picture for today, freeing up some time for a fun night.
I've been in summer school for the last few weeks, and one of classes I'm taking is a class on contemporary American poetry. I ended up in that class by accident (it was listed as contemporary American LITERATURE), but it ended up being cool and I actually enjoyed a lot of the works we read. Instead of writing a final paper (which, in the long run, would have been way less work but much more boring) I pitched a creative project. My goal was to create 4 visual representations of certain poets or poems. The link has been up for a while as a "rough draft" if you will, but after some work over the last few days, it's finally done. I'm actually really excited with how it turned out and am considering making at a reoccurring part of this project. You can check out the project here, or visit the link at the top right of the page. As always, feedback would be fantastic. What you thought of the pictures, what you thought of the poems, any suggestions for future "adaptations", put it all in the comment box at the end of the post.
Writing is hard, especially screenwriting. Because of the strict format, typing it up on a computer is pretty much a necessity. Sometimes, though, when I hit a block, the only thing that helps is doing it by hand. 60 pages in 6 weeks and it's so close I can almost taste it.
I had to take my picture today, so I decided to go for a walk and I made Jordan come with me. I think he summed today up best when he said, "Some days are just awful".
