The time has come to make the staff change for the next year, and I'm no longer the photo editor at the Nexus.
I'll be sticking around as a photographer until school is out, but after that my career in the newspaper business will most likely be over. It's kind of a bummer, I enjoyed working for a daily paper, but I'm graduating and them's the breaks. The new photo editors are obviously doing a good job though, considering they put three of my pictures on the front page today and one more on the inside!
After a year, I feel like I learned a lot at the Nexus. I'm definitely more critical when I edit photos and I feel like I have a better grasp on what makes a good picture. I'm definitely quicker on my feet when I shoot. After shooting festivals, concerts, lectures, dance performances, debates, and different on campus events, I've learned to solve problems quickly. I learned to shoot with both eyes open, because a lot of time what is happening just outside of the frame is a lot more interesting then what your camera is pointed at. And while I'm far from having mastered it, I've developed the ability to tell a story with my photos. But most importantly, I learned that no matter what, you have to get the shot. It doesn't matter how grainy a photo is because there was no light, or that the person you are shooting has a weird expression, or that you couldn't get close enough because you're too poor for a 70-200 f/2.8L II IS
