Day 243

243/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

On Day 175 my mom signed the lease to start up her own salon. Today, after a lot of work, she held the grand opening of the Blo Out Lounge in Pasadena.

The place looks awesome, I'm so proud of my mom and Sandi. And Sandi's husband Jon was a beast, he turned the place around in record time (something like 6 weeks from start to finish). During that time they interviewed and hired staff, held training sessions, took care of all the paperwork that needed to happen, got all the equipment, and stocked the shelves. Between the salon and taking care of the baby, my mom was running around like a Tasmanian devil. But it's all paying off, they've been open for about 10 days now and they're already doing pretty well, so hopefully they can keep it up.

Today they wanted to celebrate, so they stayed open late and had a little party. Just because I think it's cool, I took a shot from about the same place as Day 175 so I could compare:

It's a huge difference. My mom did a great job decorating the place. She's super stoked with the hair dryers hanging from the ceiling, and I have to agree that they are pretty slick looking.

I brought my gear with me and set up a sort of photobooth, which was surprisingly successful (I made twenty bucks in tips!). I ended up shooting pictures for a good chunk of the night. I brought Jordan along, and then managed to convince him that he'd look good with a hair feather:

Jordan...

And I managed to get a picture with my mom's landlord, who was stoked that I called him a "cool old guy" in my first blog post and hooked it up with some freebirds coupons.

That's Eddie and his wife on the left, and my mom and Sandi on the right. It was a fun night, it was really cool to see the salon for the first time. And seeing my mom as a boss was just another reminder of how much of a badass she is. Congratulations mama!
