Day 233

233/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Wednesdays aren't getting any better, so this time I drowned myself.

I'm finding it kind of therapeutic killing myself for the camera. Oddly, it gives me something to look forward on a day that is otherwise stressful.

I wanted to drown myself today and I knew I wanted the shot to be from above and head on. But I also knew that I didn't want someone hovering above a bathtub full of water with my camera while trying to balance on a ledge. So I got creative:

set up for 233/365

I have a light stand with a boom arm, so I set that up next to the bathroom. I ran the boom part across the tub, balancing the end on the windowsill. Then I used a Manfrotto Super Clamp, rigged my camera to it and attached it to the pole where I wanted it. These clamps are rad, they can be used to hang lights, cameras, pretty much anything. With the lens I decided to go with my nifty fifty because it looked good from that height. I decided to leave my flash on camera and bounce it off of the wall, just wanted to add some ambient light, nothing direct. It was a sturdy set-up, but having that money in gear dangling over the water was still scary. It worked perfectly though, and the picture turned out alright, so it was a win.

I also learned something very important today: it would be nearly impossible to drown myself in my bathtub. It's super shallow and the seal leaks  so the water is constantly draining. I guess that's good to know, right?
