Day 231

231/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Today it's my hamsa

Well, kind of anyway, it's the eyeballs from the hamsa. I went to Israel after I graduated high school and these were literally everywhere. People had them in their cars, stores, homes, wore them as jewelry, everywhere. It's totally superstitious, they're made to bring good luck and ward off the evil eye. Like most people, I don't enjoy getting the evil eye, so I got myself a bracelet in a bazaar in Jerusalem.

Cut to a few years later, it's still dangling off of my wrist. The other day I'm coming back from class and I notice that my bracelet fell off, probably while I was biking, and is long gone. I was pretty bummed, but I kind of knew it was coming and just started wearing a watch instead. I felt like I've been getting some dirty looks lately, and life was just generally bringing me down, so I got myself another bracelet AND a more traditional necklace with the whole hand (the way things have been going I felt like I needed to double up). Today they came in the mail from Israel and as silly as it sounds, it makes me feel good. I'm protected now. So quit giving me the evil eye gypsies!
