Day 143

143/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

This is my friend Tony. He's really good at talking me into things.
Today he used this skill to talk me into shooting his movie. I was actually stoked to do it, considering I haven't really shot anything this quarter. Normally, I prefer drama where I can bust out some low-key lighting, but Tony wrote a comedy and I get what I get. Not only that, he wrote a comedy filled with dogs. If you make films at a student level, you know there are two rules that you should abide by: no kids, and no dogs. Tony convinced me it'd be cake, though. And then he convinced me to shoot the movie in my apartment.

It got pretty crowded, but it was fun. The fact that I got to spend a day off making movies with my friends was pretty sweet, too. And the fact that Dana did some camera operating was even more awesome, because shooting hand-held all day with the rig in the picture tweaks your back. I need to build a new rig soon, but until then Dana is sharing in my pain.

All things considered, the first day of shooting went really well. Tony manages to bring out the best in me (and I'm not the only one). I just kind of get him, and he gets me, but we're different enough to keep each other on our toes, so we work really well together. He also happens to be a pretty good director, and it shows in his work.

It's no surprise that on a hectic day like this, I manage to get a shot of Tony calm as a cucumber. He gets his portrait and he didn't even know it. He's lets things come naturally and just enjoys the moment for what it is (even the chaotic ones). He's a quirky guy with no sense of direction (in the literal sense, I'm pretty sure he still gets lost on campus from time to time), and I like having him around.

The picture for today was taken while I was on top of a dinosaur jungle gym at a park, looking down. I was setting up a shot and Tony was the stand in. No artificial light, no posing, nothing, and I'm happy with how it looks. I'm actually excited to see this whole scene cut together, I think it's going to look pretty good!

And finally, it is Veteran's Day and I want to give a shout out to my cousin Lash. I hope training camp is going well bud!
