Day 64

64/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Today was another "thank god I have my camera on me" day. I got lucky enough to meet an interesting guy named Paul.

Since I've moved into my new place, I've had to start taking some new routes that I wouldn't normally take. A while ago, I noticed a rope swing hanging from a tree. It was simple, a long piece of rope with a drilled out 4x4 as the seat. It was cool, but it looked kind of banal in all honesty. I took note, but didn't think much more of it.

Today, I was skating home from the Nexus, and I saw someone shoot out on this swing, about 25 feet off the ground. At first I had no idea how the guy did it. I stopped skating, yanked out my headphones, and asked the guy if I could take his picture. By the time I got my camera out, he had lost his momentum, so I started talking to him and he agreed to go again. Apparently, he had lived in the apartment right next to the swing last year, and was the person who had set it up. Then he threw the swing to his friend on the 2nd story of the building, climbed onto the roof, grabbed the swing from his buddy, and jumped off!

the take off

Suddenly that swing was much more interesting. I snapped a couple of pictures and got what I wanted. He hopped off the swing and walked a block or so with me. He's a 4th year chemistry major and a pretty cool guy. I told him about this project and asked him if he wanted the link. He busted out a duct tape pocket book and a pen and had me write it down, it was pretty classy.
The best part about today? I didn't even have to think of this picture, it came to me.
