This photo is cheesy, and I'll admit it. But I've wanted to paint with light for a while, and it was really fun to take, so who cares.
This is my girlfriend Rita. She's a cutie-patootie and even nerdier than I am sometimes (I think she was more stoked about taking this picture than I was!). She's a pretty talented picture-maker herself, she took the picture for Day 33 which is arguably one of the best photos on this whole thing.
To take this, we went behind my apartment where there's a nice bush-wall thing and set up shop. It was pitch black, so it was perfect for doing this kind of thing. I set up a flash high above the camera so that we would be frozen, and I didn't have to worry about blurring. It was a 6 second exposure (the camera was on a tripod, which is essential for something like this), and then I used a flashlight with a red gel and some diffusion over the tip to paint the heart. I used my little wireless remote to trigger the shutter, and voila. That wireless trigger is so friggin handy, it's made my life 100x easier lately.
After we took our cheesy ones, we started playing around. I would pose Rita and take the picture before she knew what was going on, and I would get stuff like this:
It was really fun to do, and super easy, so if you're ever bored you should try it! Props to my man Ivan Rudas for the inspiration!
