Day 46

46/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Day 45 was light. Day 44 was gesture. Today completes my mini-homage to Jay Maisel with a very colorful photo.

Yesterday I had more hits to this blog than any other day (woooo!), and I'm starting to think this whole light/gesture/color combo is actually pretty effective.

I was starving for some color after two black and white photos in a row, but I was struggling to find something good to shoot. It was one of those overcast days in Santa Barbara where nothing was popping out to me, so I headed downtown for some inspiration. Today was fiesta, also known as Old Spanish Days, which mostly consists of drinking, parades, and confetti eggs. There were tons of people walking around downtown cruising the bars and checking out the marketplaces that were set up. Everyone was super friendly, and everyone who I asked to pose for me did, which i found miraculous. The best picture, though, I grabbed while walking through the market. I saw these dia de los muertos skulls and I knew I had my shot. The lady was totally cool and let me come into her tent and take a few pictures, then I was on my way.

This particular stand was at the end of the alley, and as I walked onto the sidewalk, I heard someone call out "Hey camera guy!". I looked to find three extremely intoxicated girls who had fallen over in the bushes, and they needed help getting out. They were "schling-schlonged" as we say in my family, and after I helped them up, they posed for a picture.

Fiesta

Gotta love Fiesta!
