Day 306

306/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Today was kind of a failed experiment.

I got an intervalometer off of the interwebs the other day because I wanted to try messing with some night photography. I took it out today after I left work and I realized I forgot two very important items: a tripod and a light meter. I wanted to do some really long exposures and I realized today that when you put your camera in bulb mode the meter on it basically becomes useless. I was able to work around it by doing some math, but it was still annoying. The tripod thing was a little more fatal, I ended up balancing my camera on posts, fences, my backpack, pretty much anything that was nearby. It was less than ideal.

I saw this building and I thought the sprinklers might look cool, so I balanced my camera on a fence. This shot was taken at f/22, ISO100, and a shutter speed of 2 MINUTES. And I didn't really even get anything spectacular. The water didn't do anything amazing, so I pretty much just took a picture of a building with some blown out porch lights. Kind of underwhelming. And the moon was hiding behind some clouds so I didn't have much to play with, I kind of got shafted. There is definitely some potential here though, next time I just need to plan things a little better.
