Day 299

299/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Today was the first day of Cam Con, and I learned how to strike a 12K light.

The Camera Convention (Cam Con) is something my friend Leigh started when I was a freshman. Basically it's like Word Farm for those who want to be cinematographers. They bring up cinematographers, camera operators, and a ton of gear to play with. I love it because I get to use things like this light, or I get to strap on a steadicam

This light is a Mole 12K/18K Daylite Par. It goes for about $15,000 if you're looking to buy one, and the bulbs are about $3,000 a piece. Setting this thing up is ridiculous. The cable coming down from the light weighs a ton, probably because the light sucks up as much electricity as some houses. They're used outside to recreate the sun, and they actually come with a UV filter on the front because they emit so many UV rays that they'll give your actors a tan. Pure craziness. Props to Vince for taking today's photo, he thinks he's better than you because he has a 5DmkII.
