Day 302

302/365, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.

Today I shot Nadia.

I worked with her at the Nexus, and then found out she was a film major, and then we became friends. She's tall and pretty and was on my list of people to shoot before the end of the project. I'm coming to the realization that my project is at the home stretch, and there are a lot of people I want to shoot still, so I'm trying to knock them out.

I experimented with a lot of things today. I shot RAW for the first time, and when I went to process it I almost felt like I was cheating. You can fix almost anything when you shoot in RAW. You barely have to point the camera in the right direction, it's madness. It's cool because it gives me a lot of flexibility, but it opens so many doors that it's almost overwhelming. We'll see if I keep coming back to it or not, the jury is still out.

I also experimented with directing Nadia. I'm in an acting and directing class right now that is fantastic, and I treated Nadia like I would an actress. Handling models is one of my biggest weak points, but I think today went really well. It's still something I need to work on, but today was a huge step in the right direction (pun intended).

As far as lighting goes for this one, it's just one 430ex II backed up, with the head zoomed in tight and nearly at a full pop. I was nuking Nadia with a ton of light, she was a trooper. I'm happy with how it turned out, today was a big step forward!
