Day 192, originally uploaded by Aaron LaRue.
The weather finally cleared up and we hit the mountain today. We had freshies all over the place!
Admittedly, most of today sucked, but there were a few runs that made it worth while. This was the chair up to one of our first runs. They didn't open up the top of the mountain right away, so the bottom was absolutely packed. We spent close to an hour waiting in lines before we could get to this chair, but then we had a killer run with pow pow down the face of chair 25 (for those of you who know the mountain) and it was insane.
We got one more killer run before it was a total zoo. We got on the mountain at 9 and by the time we had lunch at noon, we had only done 4 runs (the lift lines were absolutely brutal). But suddenly, as we were eating lunch, the top of the mountain opened. It was as if the heavens parted and the snowboard gods smiled upon us. It was just me and my dad at that point, so we scarfed the rest of our lunch and hit the top of the mountain.
When we got up there it was freezing.

We hiked over to the far side of the mountain and went for one of the few runs on the mountain that I have yet to do. It's called Dragon's Back (it's a double-black diamond) and as I peaked over the edge I realized it was one of the first times I've been scared snowboarding in a long time. It felt amazing. It was a fresh bowl and me and my dad got knee deep powder all the way down, that one run made the $92 lift ticket worth it. As far as a day on the mountain goes, today was kind of hellacious, but I'd go through it again three times over for that one glorious run.
